Here are some of the skincare no no’s that I’m sure all of us have done at some point or another. Take a look at the top 5 on our list and take action for glowing skin all year round.

1.    Not wearing Sunscreen

This is one of the biggest cardinal sins of skincare. The longer we are exposed to UV rays which penetrate the skin and causes damage, the more changes we will see in our skin. Sun exposure can also cause cancer and its so important to wear SPF on your face every day. Sunscreen prevents fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage and premature aging. You need an SPF with a factor of at least 30 and yes, you need to wear it every day rain or shine.

2.    Harsh Face scrubs

Traditional face scrubs with coffee, sugar and fruit seeds are out. They are too harsh for the delicate skin on your face and can cause micro-abrasions & micro-tears which can be a breeding ground for bacteria. Use a chemical exfoliant instead, with a low percentage such as 2% BHA. Applying a face mask twice a week can also provide gentle exfoliation.

 3.    Lemon Juice on skin

Vitamin C should be a incorporated in any good skincare routine not lemon juice. I’ve seen so many recipes online with face masks made up using lemon juice or juice applied directly to the skin. Lemon juice is acidic with a PH of 2 (PH of skin is 5-6.5) and can disrupt your skins moisture barrier, making skin sensitive to photodamage. Use a Vitamin C serum daily and use our Vitamin C Brighten & Glow Face Mask twice a week instead.

2.    Not cleansing your face

Skipping cleansing is one of the worst things you can do to your face. I know it can be difficult sometimes when you’ve had a late night or are tired but this is a basic, yet vital step for a perfect skincare routine. If you don’t cleanse your face every day, you're likely to get spots caused by excess sebum and wrinkles at an early age. Whether you’ve worn make up or not it’s important to cleanse your face morning & night with a gentle cleanser using our Magic Micro-fibre Cleansing Cloth. This process will ensure you remove all the make-up, dirt, SPF built up on your skin, revealing beautifully clean skin.

3.    Using too many products

Having a 10 step skincare routine where you’re layering multiple products all at once is a big no no.  It can be harsh on the skin, resulting in more breakouts and clogged pores. Instead simplify your skincare routine, have a good cleanser, moisturiser and face oil that you know work for you, and keep them at the core of your routine.
